In 2017, the Prix de Lausanne gave a “Carte blanche” to the Swiss photographer Niels Ackermann to document the competition in his own way. The Grand-Pont – a central location in Lausanne with a lot of people crossing it every day – highlights what the audience usually does not see: the intense work, the apprehension and the energy needed by these young dancers to reach the highest level. The photographer invites all the Lausanne residents to glance behind the scenes of a global event.

Niels Ackermann is aged 30 and lives between Switzerland and Ukraine. His work shows the world and its nuances: from the teenagers of Tchernobyl who are fixing their parents mistakes to the millions of Lenin statues that the Ukrainians do not know what to do with today.
