05 Feb 2025

This year, 56 young choreographers applied for the competition and submitted a video of their variation. Out of them, five finalists were selected: Hsin Yi Chiu, Henry Lichtmacher, Alexander Mockrish, Sky Natzke and Giulia Philips.

They have worked with five dancers throughout the week and were coached by Véronique Jean. Tonight, the five finalists presented their original variations to the public and the jury. The two winners of this year’s choreographic competition are:

  • Henry Lichtmacher (United States), from the Houston Ballet Academy, with the variation 20 Miles From Shore
    Dancer: Alex Westerman
    Music: The Ballerina, Lars Meyer
  • Alexander Mockrish (Sweden), from the ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School, with the variation Extinction
    Dancer: Caroline Quiner
Music: Etude Nr 1 for String Quartet, Peter Sandberg

The two winning variations will become part of the 2026 Prix de Lausanne’s contemporary variations repertory. To perfect their training, the two winners will return as coaches for the dancers during the next Summer Intensive in July and the 2026 Prix de Lausanne, working alongside renowned choreographers.

The two winning variations will be danced again during the Final’s Interlude performance on Saturday, 8 January, and at our Rising Stars performance on Sunday, 9 January.

We congratulate all the candidates from our Partner Schools for their amazing work and huge talent!
