Born in Sydney Australia, after winning the Prix de Lausanne in 2003, Steven immediately joined the Royal Ballet School and then the Royal Ballet Company in 2004. Promoted to Principal in 2009, he has danced all of the company’s iconic repertoire including new works by Wayne McGregor, Christopher Wheeldon, Twyla Tharp and many more. Whilst performing, Steven has completed a Degree in Business Management & Leadership as well as a Masters Degree in Marketing. Film work includes the role of ‘Skimbleshanks’ in Universal Pictures film adaptation of Cats. Awards include Best Male Dancer by the Critics Circle, Young Australian of the Year, Honorary Doctorate by West Sydney University, as well as being called the ‘Modern Day Fred Astaire’ (Guardian, 2013). A traumatic incident mid performance in October 2019 saw Steven snap his Achilles tendon live on stage. His challenging journey back to the stage will be shown in the feature length documentary film, A Resilient Man.
Now a Father of 3 young children and married to former Royal Ballet Soloist, Elizabeth Harrod, Steven is using his passion for the profession and added knowledge about his health and well-being as an Ambassador for the Royal Academy of Dance and the Royal Ballet Schools Affiliate Teacher Programs, as well as a Patron for the London Children’s Ballet.
