PNSD Rosella Hightower, Cannes-Mougins

The Pôle National Supérieur de Danse (PNSD) Rosella Hightower is dedicated to preparing dancers for the demands of today’s international choreographic world. With its renowned teaching staff, the school provides top-level training to equip students for successful careers in dance. This mission is supported by strong connections with prestigious regional ballet companies and dance institutions, including Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, Ballet National de Marseille, Ballet Preljocaj, Ballet de Nice, among others. The school also benefits from an extensive network of dance companies around the world, where many of its alumni are now thriving as professional dancers.

The comprehensive curriculum offers integrated academic and dance training, from secondary school through university levels, leading to the French Diplôme National Supérieur Professionnel de Danseur (DNSP), equivalent to a three-year bachelor’s degree. Additionally, students have the opportunity to earn a full university degree through partnerships with local universities in Nice and Toulon. The school’s partnership with the nearby high school Centre International de Valbonne also allows for a flexible academic schedule, enabling students to pursue both their academic studies and full-time dance training.

In 1984, Rosella Hightower established the Cannes Jeune Ballet, the school’s junior company, to give senior students the opportunity to refine their performance skills through live stage experience. The company performs locally, nationally, and internationally, allowing students to work with renowned choreographers and gain invaluable experience that will benefit their future careers.

The PNSD also hosts international workshops during school holidays, open to both internal and external students. These workshops cover ballet, contemporary, and jazz dance with the school teachers as well as international guest teachers. The school’s facilities include a dedicated Health Center, specifically focused on the well-being and performance of dancers. Managed by a team of professionals specialized in dancer’s health, this center offers tailored care to meet the unique physical demands of the students. Additionally, the campus provides student housing (50 double rooms with private bathrooms), a restaurant, and classrooms for academic courses, all within the grounds.

Under the direction of Paola Cantalupo, the PNSD’s training programs offer a rigorous foundation in classical ballet, complemented by a comprehensive education in contemporary dance, dance history, music, and anatomy. This holistic approach ensures that students are not only technically proficient but also fully prepared to meet the demands of the professional dance world, equipped with the versatility, knowledge, and artistry needed for successful careers.
