Didy Veldman

Dutch choreographer and educator, Didy Veldman, received her training in Amsterdam and embarked on a vibrant career in dance. Having danced with esteemed companies like Scapino Ballet, Ballet Genève, and Rambert, she co-founded Alias Company in 1992. She created choreographic works for all four Companies.

In 2000 Veldman left Rambert and ventured completely into choreography, crafting captivating pieces for a spectrum of renowned dance companies, including Birmingham Royal Ballet, Göteborg Ballet, and Geneva Ballet. Her repertoire boasts over 50 creations, showcasing her versatility and artistry.

Noteworthy among her recent endeavors is the debut of a full-length rendition of Carmen, tailored for the illustrious Natalia Osipova of the Royal Ballet. Premiering in London in May 2022, this production embarked on a successful tour to Athens and Israel, captivating audiences worldwide.

Leading her own London-based dance ensemble, Humanoove, Veldman engaged audiences with performances of The Happiness Project, The Knot and @ HOME, supported by Arts Council England and private patrons. Notably, she choreographed Framed for Igone de Jongh, former principal dancer of the Dutch National Ballet, exhibiting her ability to craft poignant narratives through movement.

Recognized for her contributions to the dance community, Veldman has received accolades such as the Dance East Choreographic Development Award and participation in the 8^th Rural Retreat for Future Dance Leaders at The Jerwood Dance House.

A passionate educator, Veldman imparts her knowledge and expertise to aspiring dancers worldwide. From the Rambert School to the Palucca Hochschule in Dresden, her teaching engagements span prestigious institutions globally, including the Paris Opera School and the School at Jacob’s Pillow in the USA.

Veldman’s involvement in prestigious events like the Prix de Lausanne underscores her dedication to nurturing the next generation of dancers. She participated in Prix de Lausanne 2019 as a contemporary teacher and choreographer, creating a new work for the Partner School Choreographic Project called Is to B for 26 students. Her role as Contemporary Programme Manager at the Royal Ballet School highlights her commitment to shaping the future of dance.
