PRESENTING THE 2014 JURY

Alessandra Ferri, member of the 2014 Jury

Alessandra Ferri was born in Milan. She began her training at the school of the Teatro alla Scala and then attended the Royal Ballet School in London. In 1980, she won the Prix de Lausanne and joined the Royal Ballet that same year. Alessandra Ferri has received numerous prestigious international awards including the Sir Lawrence Olivier Award, the Dance Magazine Award and the Prix Benois de la Danse.

In 2006, she was made a Cavaliere della Repubblica by the President of the Italian Republic, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi.

In 2007, Ms. Ferri retired from ballet. Since 2008 she has been the Director of Dance Programming at the Spoleto Festival in Italy. After a six-year absence, Alessandra Ferri returned to the stage at the Spoleto Festival in 2013 with a dance-play, The Piano Upstairs, that she conceived and choreographed. More recently she performed in New York at the Signature Theater in a production of CHERI.

Alessandra Ferri est née à Milan. Elle a commencé sa formation à l’école du Teatro alla Scala, puis à la Royal Ballet School de Londres. En 1980, elle a remporté le Prix de Lausanne et a rejoint le Royal Ballet la même année. Alessandra Ferri a reçu de nombreux prix internationaux prestigieux dont le Prix Sir Lawrence Olivier, le Dance Magazine Award et le Prix Benois de la Danse.

En 2006, elle a été nommée Cavaliere della Repubblica par le Président de la République italienne, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi.

En 2007, Mme Ferri s’est retirée de la scène. Depuis 2008, elle est directrice de programmation de la danse au Festival de Spoleto en Italie. Après une absence de six ans, Alessandra Ferri revient sur la scène au Festival de Spoleto en 2013 avec une pièce, The Piano Upstairs, qu’elle a conçue et chorégraphiée. Plus récemment, elle a joué à New York au Théâtre Signature dans une production de CHERI.
