On Sunday, January 31st, the 2016 Prix de Lausanne candidates will be given a strength and conditioning workshop organised by the Rudolf Nureyev Foundation.<\/p>\n

The workshop will develop the candidates\u2019 physical skills for performance and technique through supplementary training principles commonly used in elite athletes. The focus will be on practical cardiovascular and strength exercises to include in training and tips for the week to rest and care for the body. The workshop will be led by strength and conditioning coaches from the UK, including:<\/p>\n

Charles Jude<\/strong>
\nPrincipal Dancer at the Op\u00e9ra de Paris (from 1977), Charles Jude has been Director of the Ballet de l\u2019Op\u00e9ra de Bordeaux since September 1996. Between 1978 and 1996 he danced many of the greatest roles from the classical canon and the Ballets Russes repertoire. He has performed as guest principal with the Royal Ballet in London, the Vienna State Ballet, the Ballet of the Teatro della Scala and the Royal Danish Ballet. While teaching at the CNSM in Paris, he also gave lessons alongside Marika Besobrasova at the Acad\u00e9mie de Danse de Monaco. He has received numerous honours throughout his distinguished career: Nijinski Prize (1976), Lifar Prize (1988), Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres (1990), Chevalier de la L\u00e9gion d\u2019Honneur (1996) and Officier des Arts et des Lettres (2001).<\/p>\n

Prof Matthew Wyon<\/strong>
\nMatthew Wyon is a Professor in Dance Science at the University of Wolverhampton, UK and a Visiting Professor at the Division of Surgery and Intervention Science, Institute of Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Science, University College London and ArtEZ, Institute of the Arts, The Netherlands.\u00a0 At Wolverhampton he is the course leader for the MSc in Dance Science and Director of Studies for a number of dance science and medicine doctoral candidates. He is a founding partner of the National Institute of Dance Medicine and Science, UK.\u00a0 Prof. Wyon is incoming President of International Association for Dance Medicine & Science and a past chair of the Research Committee. He has worked with numerous dancers and companies within the UK and Europe as an applied physiologist and strength and conditioning coach.\u00a0 He has published over 80 peer-reviewed articles in dance medicine and science.
\n\u00a0<\/strong>
\nNico Kolokythas ASCC<\/strong>
\nNico comes from a martial arts background and has been a Kung Fu practitioner for 15 years. He has also coached in amateur and professional sport for over 10 years. His focus is on developmental ages and he is currently supporting England Netball, British Judo and Mixed Martial Artists. Nico recently joined Elmhurst School for Dance as part of the school\u2019s efforts to enhance the young dancers\u2019 performance and intergrate with the current injury prevention plan led from the physiotherapy department.<\/p>\n

Judith Rowann<\/strong>
\nPilates Certificate, Master Stretch Cert.
\nJudith joined Elmhurst School in 2004. She trained at the Royal Ballet School and danced with London Festival Ballet, Sadler\u2019s Wells Royal Ballet and Norwegian National Ballet. As a Senior Soloist, she danced in ballets by Ashton, Balanchine, Bintley, Bournonville, Corder, Cranko, de Valois, Fokine, MacMillan, Spoerli, Tudor and Wright. She won the Oslo Dance Critics\u2019 Prize for her performance of Anna in Anna Karenina and danced with Rudolph Nureyev in his Paris Op\u00e9ra production of The Sleeping Beauty. Upon retiring, she became a qualified Pilates instructor, then worked with dancers of Norwegian National Ballet and at the Oslo Ballet School. She has also taught at the Corraine Collins School of Dance in Cheltenham and worked with young people with physical and mental disabilities.<\/p>\n
